Mums of all ages are reaping the rewards of participation in physical activity through the City of Melville's recreation programs. Many mums of all fitness levels participate in various forms of activity everyday at City of Melville Recreational Facilities including Social Netball, Aerobics and Gym.

For those starting out, the new re-energise program at Melville Recreation Centre and Melville Aquatic Fitness Centre is the way to go. This five-week program includes nutrition talks, goal setting and a variety of exercises, including fit-ball, a gym workout and aqua-aerobics.

For those seeking a different fitness experience, daytime or evening social ladies netball has proven a great success. Netball is a fun and social way to meet up with friends and receive the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Bullying

How does a bully become a bully? Perhaps a child is angry and may have felt powerless in the past. Becoming "tough" is a survival technique.

It could be peer pressure. It is important for most of us to feel we belong. Friends or peers could be a "bad" influence, talking children into doing things they may, or may not, understand to be wrong.

Kids need boundaries. Caretakers may have lacked in supervision. They may have been too busy to teach a child how wrong it is to hurt others.

Children may never have been taught tolerance, or been spoilt, making them think they can do anything they want, including bullying!

What to do about bullies:

ï Inform teachers and parents. If bullying is physical or violent, tell them not to give your name. That could make bullies more angry and they'll come after you harder.
ï Travel to school or social events in groups. Don't walk alone.
ï Bullies won't pick on those they can't win against. Body language and self-esteem plays a big part. A self confident person who speaks up is less likely to be picked on. Learning things like Kung Fu will help them achieve this.

The Milton Method - the right solution

For generations, Australian mums have relied on Milton for complete hygienic protection for many baby items.

Why? Because it's been clinically tested and proven over many years to be an effective, trusted and simple way to beat nasty germs. And of course, with the peace of mind that Milton gives you, you'll have even more time to enjoy all those special moments with your healthy and happy baby.

What is the Milton Method?

It simply means soaking pre-cleaned items in a made-up solution proven to kill all kinds of germs, such as Meningococci, Salmonella and Candida Albicans (thrush). After soaking, your baby's items are hygienically stored ready for use, on demand, at any time over the next 24 hours. How quick and easy is that!

Why is the Milton Method superior?

The Milton Method is superior to both boiling and microwave steaming. Because you only use cold water, it's safer for you and little hands around the home, plus your items will last longer.

Another great advantage of the Milton Method is that the made-up solution remains active for 24 hours, so you can simply pop cleaned items into the same solution at any time, leaving them to soak before use. Items are then hygienically stored until needed, for up to 24 hours. Always read the label and use as directed.
