Dedication Pays off at Kip McGrath
By Brian Raven and Mark Jones

About five years ago a quiet, reserved Daniel Hesford began attending Kip McGrath in Myaree. Daniel was struggling with his English at school and had lost confidence and interest in learning. Daniel worked with the teachers at Kip McGrath for some time and returned again when entering year 11. His hard work and commitment combined with the accurate assessment, programming and teaching of Brian Raven, director at the Myaree centre, saw Daniel graduate from Melville Senior High School as Dux of his Vocational English Class.

Daniel is one of Kip McGrathís most popular success stories. Here is a young man who made his own commitment to furthering himself and it really paid off. Many other students have graduated from the centre with amazing improvement in their learning and in their self-confidence and study skills, and many others currently enrolled are blossoming under our programmes and educational care.

ìI am proud to have been the longest serving student at Kip McGrath in Myareeî, said Daniel. ìBrian has really helped me have confidence in my own ability and I thank him and all his staff.î

We could not have helped Daniel unless we listened to his parents and him about his needs. Do you feel that no one is really listening to what you need to say about your child? For the past 20 years we have been assessing children who are experiencing difficulties. During this time one lesson has been abundantly clear: no one knows a child better than his or her parents. They are the ìworld authoritiesî on their child.

So when you come to a Kip McGrath Education Centre you can expect to be listened to. We listen to what you have to say about your childís special needs. We also listen to your child, encouraging him or her to tell us about how they feel. We then follow this up with a thorough assessment to provide baseline measurements. Only then can we provide advice that reflects your childís real needs; only then can we provide real action.

This educational assessment is designed for action. We combine your comments and the results of the testing to develop an Individual Educational Programme. Every child in a Kip McGrath centre is following their individual programme. This initial assessment is only the first step. We never stop reviewing your childís progress, changing the program to meet his or her changing needs.

Your child will be helped by a qualified and experienced teacher. All Kip McGrath tutors have to be experienced teachers who understand the needs of children in WA schools. They understand that your child will needs time to learn and understand their lessons. Your child will not be rushed; neither will they be held back to fit in with some inflexible, imposed programme.

Kip McGrath is now being successfully exported all over the world; there are 16 centres in the Perth metropolitan area and another 10 in country Western Australia. Kip McGrath teachers take pride in their role in developing the academic success of thousands of Western Australian students.
