Get into the mood with the 2005 Subiaco Street Party

Reclaim the streets in an afternoon of celebration ñ itís almost school holidays, itís almost summertime and itís almost Christmas!

Young and old come together in the Subiaco CBD, Hay Street, Rokeby Road, Subi Centro and side streets for four hours of free entertainment, activities and unlimited fun on Sunday November 27, between 2pm and 6pm for the 2005 Subiaco Street Party.

The annual event features the Kids in Perth Expo, Kids Carnival for little people, live youth music and dance by local schools, interactive workshops and educational activities. You can meet the Perth Wildcats, stand in awe of the trapeze and jump around the inflatable city. Donít get squashed by the giant kangaroos and snails ñ but do tell Santa youíve been good before he draws the Kids in Perth Santa Sack prize draw at 5pm on the Subiaco Pavilion Market Stage!

With shops open, bigger kids can start their Christmas shopping or indulge themselves with gourmet food and wine to sample and taste. You can find gifts for friends and family or yourself in a marketplace brimming offering talented fashion designers or enjoy family fashion parades, swing and Latin dancing demonstrations and classes and live jazz. Become a part of history and contribute to a new Subiaco book or visit radio station Nova 93.7, which will be opening itís doors and celebrating its third birthday.

Road closures will take place from 11.30am, with limited access to the area for the safety of Street Party visitors. Subiaco is easily accessible by train or bus. Call the Transperth Infoline on 136213 for details. Over 1500 parking bays are available in Subiaco. Try Rowland Street, Bagot Road, Coles, Crossways and Woolworths carparks. Seddon Street carpark is open via York Street.

A full program of events will be available from November in Subiaco retailers, published in the POST and the Western Suburbs Weekly the week of the event or email prosubi@bigpond.net.au

Letís party in Fremantle!

The Fremantle Festival will celebrate its 100th birthday in November, with an exciting week of family-friendly events from 18 to 27 November. Donít miss the sensational opening for the festival, from 6.30pm on Friday, 18 November, when Kings Square will ignite with music, dance, comedy and non-stop fun with a special tribute to Fremantleís colourful Italian connections at the festivalís official opening.

Families can enjoy some fantastic and far out performances, including Australiaís youngest rock band sensation, the Flairz, who will rock your socks off. Then thereís the incredible Commedia Academy ñ side splitting physical mask comedy, a breathtaking lantern parade featuring local school children, and the hilarious Black Nonnas Cabaret Band ñ an outrageous mix of donkeys, caffeine and pastaÖ(only in Freo).

Incredible singer/songwriter Kavisha Mazzella has returned home to perform for the festival, along with some of Australiaís most respected musicians and so much more. This is an event not to be missed so round up your family and friends, grab your dancing shoes and donít miss this sensational free opening event!

The Wardarnji Aboriginal Cultural Celebration at The Esplanade from 11am on Sunday, 19 November, will be one of the highlights of the festival. This one-day event celebrates Aboriginal culture and the heritage of Fremantle through Nyoongar eyes.

This year Shellie Morris and her band will hit the stage with their earthy and honest acoustic songs and contemporary instrumentations. Trained in opera and writing her own material, Shellieís has a voice that resonates between the grunting rock sound of Suzi Quatro and the higher octaves of songbird Mariah Carey! Accompanying Shellie will also be a variety of local Indigenous performers (sponsored by Abmusic) showcasing their talents in music, dance and fashion.

There will be a variety of young peopleís activities and interactive events, with lots of food, arts and crafts stalls. Wardarnji is enjoyed by over 4,000 people each year.

On Sunday, 20 November, magnificent kites will be swooping in the Fremantle Doctor at South Beach, with fabulous music and other entertainment. Bring your own kite or make one on the day with Michael Alvares. There will also be a celebration of African culture, free activities and competitions such as face painting, sandcastle building and basket making.

The big festival finale is the Lotterywest Street Parade, commencing at 4pm at the Esplanade Reserve on Sunday, 27 November.
