HappyÖ whatever
As the Christmas
and holiday season approaches, our vigilant mainstream media is doing
its best to ferret out any cultural traitors and uncover schools that
have banned revered figures like Santa Claus and sacred traditions
like making paper and tinsel decorations for the tree. Rest assured,
if any politically correct Marxists in sheepís clothing are secretly
trying to undermine our traditional values, theyíll be rooted out
and fed to the howling mobs of outraged íStrayans.
The source of all
this trouble seems to be the USA, where social divisions are so deep
that ì Merry Christmasî has indeed become an unforgivable faux pas
and even the massive chain stores that profit so handsomely from the
event refer only to ìHappy Holidaysî. For some obscure reason, any
reference to Christmas is likely to offend non-Christians, although no
one seems to have asked them whether that is actually the case.
Much fuss has been
made in recent years about anti-Christmasism, but for the most part
itís just another beat up that allows ëToday Tonightí presenters
around the nation to demonstrate their most sincerely disapproving
facial expressions. The demise of Christmas in Australia is greatly
exaggerated, and it seems weíll be soldiering on with hot roast
family lunches in 35-degree heat for years to come.
Thereís
absolutely no reason why we canít recognise the celebrations of
minority cultures and groups by acknowledging their festivities rather
than denying our own. Surely thatís multiculturalism in action?
Everyone
at Kids in Perth ñ The Parentsí Paper would like to wish all our
readers, contributors and advertisers a safe and happy Christmas,
Hannukah, Summer Solstice and holiday season ñ and a prosperous New
Year.
