Parents Seminar: Developing and Learning with Puzzles

Puzzles and jigsaws are a basic part of every toy collection, but what do children learn from doing them? Are your puzzles too easy or too hard for your child? How many pieces should they be able to manage? Marie Yuncken, a paediatric occupational therapist with many years experience in using play to develop children's skills, will conduct the next workshop on puzzles at Playways.

Marie will offer ideas to make puzzles interesting and fun, even for those children who find them difficult. Her workshop will help parents select the most appropriate puzzles for the age of their child and look at enhancing their ongoing learning skills.

The two-hour workshop will be held on Wednesday 26 April 2006 at 7.15 pm (registration 6.50pm), with refreshments provided. Space is limited so book early.

The cost of the workshop is $8.00 per person. For more information or Playways products call 9381 3368, email info@playwayswa.com.au or visit www.playwayswa.com.au.

Testing time call for clever measures: Scolarship preparation

Top private schools are gearing up for scholarship exams designed to help select the best students from hundreds of applicants.

For several years, Clever Kids Education Centres have offered eastern states students effective Scholarship Exam Preparation Workshops to maximise their chances of getting selected. Now Clever Kidsí new Claremont centre is proud to offer the same opportunity to the Perth community.

Each four-hour workshop covers effective strategies, time-management issues and practice opportunities relevant to each section of the exam. The programme has proved especially beneficial to younger applicants inexperienced in sitting exams.

The final scholarship exam will take place on 15 May, with registrations closing April 14 (see www.acer.edu.au). Clever Kids ñ Claremont will hold workshops on 19 amd 26 April. For details of these and other holiday offerings visit www.cleverkids.com.au, call 92844408 or check our April Diary.
