Six
tips to reduce potential asthma attack triggers
1. Clean your pet. Bathe them
once a week, especially cats as research has shown that itís not
their fur but their saliva that contains allergens, including pollen
picked up outside on their paws. When cats groom themselves, they
spread allergens from their saliva onto their fur.
2. Tear up the carpet. Dust mites
cause a lot of allergies and asthma attacks. Removing carpets and
drapes can reduce the number of mites tickling your nose and throat.
Opt for throw rugs and blinds that can be washed easily and regularly.
3. Sleep ìaloneî. We are
talking about covering mattresses and pillows with plastic covers to
create a barrier between you and the millions of dust mites in bed
with you. Also washing linen on the hot cycle will rinse away mites
from sheets and pillowcases.
4. Kill cockroaches. Their faeces
and shell contain allergens that trigger asthma attacks. Set traps and
in areas where you do spot cockroaches ensure you clean thoroughly.
5. Pollen belongs outside not
inside the home. During pollen season, after extended periods in the
park or backyard, leave your shoes outside, shower off the pollen from
your body and hair and change your clothes.
6. Close the windows especially
during pollen season. Insulate your environment against the elements.
Regularly replace filters to keep your air conditioning from pumping
allergens into your home.
