Cord blood stem cell banking
A growing number of Perth families are choosing to store
their babyís umbilical cord blood after becoming aware of the
potential uses of cord blood stem cells.
Following the birth of the baby, the blood remaining in the
umbilical cors and placenta can be collected and cryogenically
preserved so that it is available in later life to be used in the
treatment of a wide range of diseases.
Biocell, an Australian Cord Blood Bank, has made this
opportunity available in Western Australia and has a team of senior
midwives available to assist families making this important investment
in the future health of their children.
A Parent Information evening on this important health issue
will be held at St John of God Murdoch at 7pm, Thursday 21 September.

Give
your baby a smart start
Growing a healthy baby inside your body and
nurturing a newborn in its first experiences in the world is an
extraordinary journey. As a mum, youíll be the sole source of all
the nutrients your baby needs for healthy physical and mental
development. So naturally, youíll want to make the smartest choices
for both of you.
Science knows more about pregnancy and
breast-feeding than it ever has, particularly in the area of brain
development and the need for nutrients such as iodine and an omega-3
fatty acid called DHA. And this is where Blackmores
Pregnancy & Breast-Feeding Formula can help.
A special time means
special needs. Having a baby doesnít
just change your life. The growing demands of pregnancy and
breast-feeding changes your need for virtually every vitamin and
mineral. The diet and lifestyles maintained by both you and your
partner can influence conception, pregnancy and birth.
Try to make positive changes at least four months before
conception. If your pregnancy is unplanned then think about adjusting
your lifestyle and diet as soon as you find out.
What nutrients do you
really need now? The amount of a nutrient you
require each day is called your recommended dietary intake (RDI). The
most up-to-date national nutritional survey in 1995 showed that the
majority of pregnant women in Australia fell well short of their RDIs
for many nutrients essential for both their wellbeing and the healthy
physical and mental development of their babies. So Blackmores
Pregnancy & Breast-Feeding Formula was born. Itís a twice-a-day
supplement that provides a number of key vitamins and minerals such as
folate, DHA, iodine, calcium, zinc and iron.
Blackmores Pregnancy & Breast-Feeding Formula is
not a substitute for a healthy diet, plenty of filtered water, light
exercise and a positive attitude. However, with these important
nutrients, our formula can help you meet the special nutritional needs
of this special time in your life.
