What you should know about sheets

Nigel Hildreth, State Manager of Australian owned and operated importing business, H. Polesy and Co, has 30 years of textile importing experience. He says consumers requiring sheets are confused and ask about thread count, when itís the weight of the sheet that matters.

ìTraditional thread count is based on the number of threads per square inch,î Nigel says. ìRetail businesses have increased the area threads are counted in. Increasing that area and using lightweight fine denier threads result in high thread counts: 300-1000.  However, this doesnít always mean the linen is high quality, just that there are more threads.

ìHPC doesnít sell to retailers but imports for hotels, commercial laundries, hospitals and mine site accommodation. HPC now sells direct to the public from the HPC Warehouse in Malaga. Most clients donít buy on thread count but base purchases on grams per square metre; 160gsm meets Australian Commercial Standards.î
