Boost your childís self esteem

If your child is falling behind at school, it will likely affect their self-esteem. Like adults, kids need to feel that they can succeed in order to form a positive opinion of themselves as a learner and in life in general.

Ten year old Flynn wasnít keeping up at school. According to his teachers, Flynn was a daydreamer and he was falling further and further behind. He was beginning to say things like ìIím just dumbî and would use every trick in the book to avoid doing his homework.

His mother Leanne read about the success of the Fast ForWord computer programme and Flynn soon became a participant. ìAfter only 12 weeks of training Iím thrilled with the change in Flynn,î says Leanne. ìHeís my happy boy again! Heís doing much better at school, heís listening in class and his teacher has commented that his attitude has improved and he is now joining in on class discussions.î

Fast ForWord is an ideal learning tool for both primary and high school students because kids of all ages enjoy playing the age-appropriate interactive computer games. The exercises are motivating as they adapt to individual learning needs so that students are always working at the right level of challenge.

Fast ForWord was designed by neuroscientists, speech pathologists and clinical psychologists and is based on 35 years of study into how the brain works and how it learns.

This programme is unique because it has been designed to build stronger and more efficient neural pathways so that students learn better, faster and easier.

At the end of each training session, participantsí results are sent over the internet to Sonic Learningís team of health professionals who monitor progress and provide weekly progress reports.

To find out more or to book a free online or onsite Fast ForWord demonstration, call or email the health professionals at Sonic Learning now on 9271 7711 or info@soniclearning.com.au

Is your child ready for the challenges of high school?
By Denise Bailey  (Balcatta Kip McGrath Centre)

Your child is facing the next big step in their schooling. Will he or she be up to the demands of a new school with new pressures and new teachers?

Many high school teachers tell us that students entering their schools do not have the required skills. This is backed up by reports in both the state and national press.

The first year of high school lays the foundation for the rest of your childís educational experience. If they cannot cope and begin to slide backwards there are many other distractions they can devote their precious learning time to; distractions that you would much rather they avoid.

Kip McGrath are now helping more and more older students return to their studies because the labour market has become more and more demanding. The booms of the future will only be for those with the qualifications to offer employers.

You can take action now to set them up for success. ìThank you for your patience and understanding with Matthew. He has progressed further than we ever dared to hope.î (Parent of a Kip McGrath student). Kip McGrath can help prepare your child with the comprehension skills they need to meet the demands of high school reading.

Can you remember how to write a successful essay? ìThank you for helping Robin with her essay writing, spelling and grammar. We definitely can see an improvement.î (Parent of a Kip McGrath student).  They are experienced teachers and understand what is required in schools today.

Is a high school teacher going to have time to help your child understand the basics in maths? ìRyan has enjoyed coming to his lessons and we have seen an improvement in his maths. He now tackles his home work well.î (Parent of a Kip McGrath student). Kip McGrath can take the time to find out where your child is at - and build steadily from there.

Most schools are now starting to slow down. According to parents, some students wonít do much more learning as they prepare to say goodbye to their old schools. You wonít see this at Kip McGrath Learning Centres, who will be picking up the pace ñ moving onto next yearís challenges.

Where do you want your child to be in six years time? The foundations you help them lay down now will help to decide how easy or hard that journey will be. ìIn just three months my daughter has gone from a ëDí to an ëAí.î (Parent of a Kip McGrath student).

Many Kip McGrath Education Centres continue to provide powerful learning experiences during the Christmas holidays. Just one or two lessons each week will build and consolidate your childís gains. ìI am amazed to see how much my son John has done in just a few short weeks. I canít help but wonder what he has been doing all semester?î (Parent of a Kip McGrath student).

Call your local centre to arrange a free diagnostic assessment. It can be the first step towards a whole new beginning. ìAmandaís improvement in ability is very pleasing to observe. Even more encouraging is her boost in personal confidence in tackling tasks before her.î (Parent of a Kip McGrath student).

Kip McGrath Centres operate in Balcatta, Jandakot, Joondalup, Morley, Myaree, Mundaring, Spearwood and Willetton. For further information and to book your free assessment, visit the Kip McGrath website at www.kipmcgrath.com.au or call 1300 789 457.
