Speech problems versus lazy talkers

Does your child have a speech problem or are they a lazy talker? Speech pathologists have heard this question many times. The short answer to this question is that children do not deliberately make speech errors. They want to be understood and have their needs met.

It is true that children with minor speech difficulties may ìgrow out of themî. However, showing your child how to fix their speech errors will allow them to correct their sound errors faster.

Ask a Speechie can provide you with information about the development of speech sounds in children and advise by what age children should be able to pronounce certain sounds.

For more information about ìwhat is normal speech?î and other speech pathology issues, please visit the Ask a Speechie new website at www.askaspeechie.com.au, phone 9438 1969 or email mail@askaspeechie.com.au
