Give
your child the best chance of success

Research
shows that everyone is capable of more: better memory, quicker
thinking, greater learning accuracy. Yet few reach their learning
potential because brain training is missing from the school
curriculum.
Brain
training differs from classroom learning and tutoring. It involves
systematic, intensive, frequent and adaptive mental exercise, designed
to gradually improve memory, thinking speed, sustained attention,
thought organisation and information retention. Imagine how valuable
brain training could be for your child, particularly if theyíre
struggling at school.
Itís
one of the greatest findings of the century and is taking the world by
storm. Dr Norman Doidgeís internationally best selling book, The Brain That Changes Itself (www.NormanDoidge.com)
discusses brain training and your capacity to develop, progress and
change throughout your lifetime. Dr Doidge explains brain training can
build the brainís learning capacity in much the same way as physical
exercise builds muscle.
So how
can your child undergo brain training? Dr Doidge endorses the Fast
ForWord programme, a 12-week home-based brain training course which is
by far the most advanced, well researched brain training programme
available. Due to significantly increased demand, the Australian
provider of Fast ForWord since 2000, Sonic Learning, has reduced the
programme price by 50%.
Developed by neuroscientists, speech pathologists and psychologists, based
on over 35 years of research into how the brain learns, these
rigorously tested programmes improve brain processing speed,
concentration skills, memory, literacy development, comprehension,
problem solving, objective reasoning, motivation for learning and
self-esteem.
Suitable for most primary and high school students, particularly those
needing a learning boost, Fast ForWord provides students with
something they canít get through classroom learning or tutoring.

The
basics DO matter
Victoria Carlton, Director
International Centre For Excellence
Who decided that the basics donít matter or that
spelling, grammar, writing and maths standards could drop? Every day
we see casualties of this ìfuzzy thinkî approach with children who
cannot read, spell, write coherently or perform the simplest of mental
maths functions. What is going wrong?
Just ask the really simple questions: Can my child read,
write and spell? Can my child add, subtract, multiply and divide?
Many parents have been told tables no longer matter! Itís
no good being able to rattle off 7, 14, 21, 28 etc, when they get to
the workforce they will be expected to answer 7 times 8 in a split
second. Itís no good not being able to write proper sentences that
contain nouns, verbs, adverbs and adjectives and to know which is
which.
Letís get back to basics: Teach children to read and
appreciate books, spell well and write fluently. Teach the tables and
how to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
All subjects are unavailable to a child who cannot read.
All sciences and understanding of abstract thoughts are unavailable to
those who cannot do basic maths. All professions are unavailable to
children who lack the ìbasicsî.
Are you prepared to let your child fail? If you want your
child to succeed, demand the best teaching. Itís only through
systematic, planned programs that cover the basic processes and teach
THOROUGHLY, that children will reach their potential. This is not
rocket science and doesnít need expensive tests, expensive computer
programs and/or boring worksheets. The situation needs caring, well
trained teachers to teach the ìbasicsî.
We offer these ìbasicsî at ICE. Our vision is to help
ALL children reach their full potential. They may not win Nobel prizes
or become university professors but that wonít be because they
werenít given a chance to learn. They will at least have the basics
- the best foundation to be able to choose any profession they wish!
Readers who DO care about the ìbasicsî and reaching
higher standards can call us on 9271 4200 or email victoriacarlton@ice-au.com
